The following poem was written by my second cousin and read at Grandpa's funeral. It was so cute and clever and fit Grandpa to a T.
Poem Written by Adrian Hair, 1st Great Grandchild of George E. Cheeseman
George Edgar Cheeseman, what can you say?
Of a man that has done it all in his day.
He grew up in Kansas, a prairie resort,
Of the twisting tornados he’d often report.
A well rounded boy, he was good at it all,
From barbershop quartets to basketball.
A faithful employee, we’d expect nothing else.
For 28 years he served UPS.
The brown & the yellow he’d wear with a grin
And felt naked without his UPS pin.
Then came the marriage, Virginia he wed.
They raised 2 fine children, Judy and Ed.
As a father, a grandpa, and even a great,
He was prompt and on time, not a minute too late.
No matter the game, you had best deal him in.
When the cards hit the table you knew George would win.
And if lunch time were near, there’s one place he’d be taken
Only Carl’s Jr. for the Western with Bacon.
Such entrees would surely make some people pay,
Not our George, no he walked his two miles each day.
Of his fine leather work one could easily boast,
But reading was what he loved to do most.
He traveled the world on his many vacations,
And was known for his generous money donations.
He blessed all our lives from beginning to end.
A father, a husband, my grandpa, and friend.
I think he said it best; it was easy to see,
He was “pretty good for an old man” we all could agree.
